Why choose Brightspeed for internet service?

Brightspeed’s DSL service isn’t knock-your-socks-off fast, but it’s affordable and delivers solid speeds for customers living in small towns and rural areas with limited internet options.

Brightspeed plans don’t have contracts or data caps, and the prices are competitive with other DSL providers. And DSL is definitely faster and cheaper than satellite internet. Brightspeed offers DSL service in 20 states across the South and Midwest, along with Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and offers fiber in 13 of those states.

The company launched in October 2022 as part of a $7.5 billion deal for parent company Apollo Global Management to acquire the DSL and phone customers of Lumen Technologies, CenturyLink’s parent company. Brightspeed plans to expand its fiber network to more than half its footprint in the next few years.

How Brightspeed compares to the competition

Brightspeed faces stiff competition from established cable providers like Xfinity and Spectrum. Both of these larger internet providers get better ratings in our annual customer satisfaction survey. They deliver faster speeds and have lower prices on some plans, too.

AT&T, a veteran DSL provider, now offers only fiber internet to new customers. You can get super speedy fiber from AT&T if you’re willing to pay for it. However, for speeds similar to what Brightspeed offers, AT&T is a little more expensive every month.
